We're MIA

Disaster has struck and both our computers have decided to turn into useless piles of junk. Hopefully that situation is going to be remedied soon but until then if there's no posts and we're all ignoring your e-mails just assume we're still in no-internet land. It's a sad, sad place.

i love bugs

We've been catching all sorts of neat bugs in the bug box this summer. The other day we found a flowering hermit beetle. I should have put a quarter next to this guy so you can see how big he is. According to the info on the ISU website they are one of the largest insects in Iowa. Once I convinced Keira that he wasn't going to eat her or bite her she decided she liked him quite a bit.
A couple nights ago we found this cicada on our steps.
Keira was very enamored with him and named him Taxi (she also named the beetle Taxi-apparently it's a popular bug name).

Taxi spent the night with us and then the next night we took him outside so he could go back home. He was kind enough to hang around for the photo ops before flying off to a prime location on the tree.

Keira is very excited about her upcoming birthday. We had planned to buy a cake for her but today at Wal-mart she saw some Diego decorations and asked if she could have them. She decided she wanted to help make her birthday cake so we've got a devil's food cake mix, some Diego decorations, and a whole lot of assorted sprinkles-should be interesting.

banging the drum

We went to a drumming Friday with out neighbor Kathleen and her nephew Elijah. Keira had an absolute blast-she took her lizard with her and she and lizard banged on the drum and bounced to the beat. After the drumming we picked up some Chinese food for supper. Elijah is quite the talented musician and had brought his keyboard and guitar with him so we had a night of music.

Keira and Fred played football earlier in the evening and broke one of Kathleen's lamps. We tried duct taping it back together. It didn't work very well but Keira found another use for the duct tape-it was the perfect elephant trunk.

a little work, a little play

Keira has been working hard on her preschool books. The other day we practiced tracing letters and writing her name. I wrote her name on the top for her to look at and she copied it on the bottom.

We've also been spending lots of time outside with the gorgeous, gorgeous weather. Keira did a little dancing...
and a lot of playing in the sandbox.

fun at grandma's

We spent last weekend at Grandma's house. It was the 141 garage sale so Friday and Saturday morning we went garage saling. Saturday afternoon Aubree came over and the girls had fun playing. They had predicted a really hot day but instead it ended up being really nice out so they got to spend lots of time outside.

Keira had the bubble wands out and as she was bouncing on the ball announced that she was bubble power girl. Not sure what kind of superpowers bubble power girl has but she says she's coming "to the rescue!"

Keira also got a postcard from Grandma and Grandpa Weaver from London. The postman kindly smeared the postmark so we can't tell when they mailed it but it beat them home anyway!

lizard

We went shopping at Target a couple weeks ago and Keira decided she wanted to buy a rubber lizard with her very own money. I tried to talk her out of it thinking it would be forgotten before we got it home but she was determined that was what she wanted to buy and besides it was on sale! (I think I'm going to rue the day when I taught her what a clearance sign was).

She proved me wrong though-Nora the lizard is enjoying her time in the spotlight as the hot new toy and has been sharing the nighttime snuggle job with T-Rex. Glad I'm not the one that has to roll over and get a face full of rubber lizard tale!
